One of a series of paintings depicting the south bank of the Thames between Putney and Barnes Bridge.

Painted predominantly en plein air and finished off in the studio. Resisting the temptation to tighten up the brushwork produced a more vital and energetic image while the ground colour of the canvas worked to harmonise the darks.
