K. Gorny
One of a series of paintings depicting the South Bank of the Thames between Putney Bridge and Barnes Bridge.
Strong, direct light of high summer often bleaches colour but it was the rich colours in the ambient light in the lower third of the composition that struck me. The deep shadows cast be the figures and sweep boat served to balance the tree mass while loose brushwork helped represent the reflective quality of the road surface.
