One of a series of paintings depicting the South Bank of the Thames between Putney Bridge and Barnes Bridge.

This view is one I’ve returned to a number of times. It offers an exciting, changeable compositional structure and dynamic lines of perspective that I find appealing. The reduced palette served to highlight the colour accents of the rowers’ uniforms that tumble across the lower third of the painting while the intricacy of the bare London Plane Tree is a compelling challenge.
